A moment of frustration(this blog is going to talk about blood and it may gross you out!!)

I just spent 4 hours getting done what should have taken an hour maximum to do! I had to have blood work done today. My veins have never been any good. I used to completely pass out when they tried to draw my blood. Because of everything I no longer do that, however my veins have actually gotten worse due to all the medication. I have endured many blood draws from my foot, my hand, and yes, even from my thumb!! So, I had a minor operation to have a port placed in my body. It is right under the skin and is easily accessed with a special needle. It is there to draw blood from. I cannot tell you all that I had to do to convince the nurses Houston that my port was just fine. But I did, and now I have to go to a special area with special nurses to have the port accessed and also to have the access removed when I am done. Ok fine, I know that. So today I arrived to get the port accessed, walk to another area so the phlebotomists in that area can draw from the port, and then walk back to the first area and have a nurse take out the access line. It took me 4 hours!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I know that I am not the only patient, their waiting room is always full, and I really try to be patient and I make an effort to be nice even when they are stabbing me with a needle…..

Ugh! Ok I am done venting! I feel better and calmer. The truth is, I don’t have much else going on here so it was kinda a welcome change of pace!
